Roebourne & Perth

Hi Everybody, hope you are all well.
I have been away over the last month spending a few days catching up with a dear friend Sue and her family in Roebourne WA.

When I left here the temperature was around 14degrees arriving in Roeboune later that day to a HOT 32degrees......it seemed so hot to me but mild to them as the temp in summer reaches up to 50degrees...lol...that why I went in the winter...lol.

Flying in was amazing looking out the window at the landscape below, the dirt is a real red and orange marble effect from the sky, the ghost gumtrees lining the dry river beds, it is so different but beautiful.

Went on a tour of a Rio Tinto iron ore mine, Cape Lambert where Sue's son is an apprentice diesel mechanic which boasts one of the longest and tallest jetty's in Australia....every thing was coated in red dirt...lol

Love the hard hat and goggles...lol..Regulation dress code...lol

I met some of the local artists while I was in Roebourne.

Their paintings were divine and all so different, each with their own style and use of colour.

Sue took me to a kids playground so I could get a picture of me with one of the retired BABY dump trucks they use in the mines up there.

Yep!!!! that's me near the wheel.

Had a great few days up there BUT was glad to be heading down south to Perth to the cooler climate....that heats just no good for the hair style.

Sue came with me to spend a little time and a lot of money in Perth, checking out the patchwork shops, dress shops and the craft show was in town..lol..we ate, slept and spent well...lol...I even brought some knitting needle's and wool to knit a scarf...We had a ball.

Perth is such a beautiful quiet city. I fell in love with the mosaic and Morton Bay Fig trees in King's Park....came home on a mission to buy and plant one BUT haven't yet....I know I will never live long enough to see it grow BUT my great great grand kids can enjoy or curse me for planting it ....lol.
Took the train down to Freemantle for the day, came back via a river cruise, had a pedicure and hot rock massage....now that was different, but fantastic. The weather was perfect. We both had a wonderful time.

We have made a pact to meet every two years, so two years from now we are heading to Sydney for a week of retail therapy, food and relaxation.

Quiltaid 2010

It was a very hard decision for me to pick just one name BUT in the end I had to go with "Gorgeous Georgia". Every time I look at my quilt I think of my fantastic holiday.

Sometimes it's easy to name a new design then others I

just come up with a blank,

but you have given me so many fantastic names, it is hard to decide on just one.

Help Needed

Hi everyone.

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter.

The weather here has been just glorious.

I haven't done much over the weekend, just a little designs for a weekend workshop in June, finishing off another quilt which I will give you a peek at in the next couple of days.

What I really need is a little help in naming the last quilt I showed you in the post below.

It has raw edge applique and rows of pieced blocks in very bright rich fabrics as you can see.

I just got it back from the quilter over the weekend and haven't a clue as to what to call it...any ideas?

A free pattern to the winning name......(when I get the pattern complete)...lol

Kookaburra's and New Project

Hi Everyone

Hope you are all well.

I have a few photos I would like to show you .

Firstly is a picture of my birthday present I got from my hubby a few weeks ago, I just love kookaburra's so when I received this I was over the moon. It's a bird bath with 3 copper kookaburra's sitting on a piece of steel rod. Its looks devine in my garden.

The designer is from Tasmania named Kooper Tasmania, how clever some people are.

Secondly is a sneak preview of my new quilt I have been working on over Christmas.

I brought this bundle of fabric on my trip over seas last year in Atlanta.

It has a big appliqued panel across the top followed by row by row of different patchwork blocks.

I have been checking out fabric for a border. I think I have it right now.

Gee that can be the hardest thing to pick sometimes.

Not a lot of my quilts end up with borders BUT I just felt that this one needed it.

Once I have the borders on off to the quilters. Yippee !!!!!

The pattern should be available in a couple of months.

Big Day

All the men in my life.....Graham, Ian, Beau and Zac.
My sisters Marg, Vicky, Groom Ian, Bride Megan and me.

Bride's brother Brad, Grooms bothers Zac and Beau, Ian & Megan, Bianca, Kelly & Jess.

My 1st son Ian and our beautiful new daughter in law Megan were married on 8th January 2010.
I was in charge of the boys for the day ...... LOL.

Now that's a was a big job, feeding them, making sure they were dressed on time and keeping them sober LOL...

They were all well behaved and looked sooooooooooo handsome I couldn't stop crying.

They were married in the gardens in Daylesford at "Saults" lavender farm.

The lavender was out and made a beautiful back drop for the photos.

All went well and a great day had by all.

I have 3 sons, so 1 down 2 to go LOL.

Altanta

We had an uneventful flight to Atlanta, and settled into our beautiful historic hotel on the 18th floor in the middle of town for the next 2 days.

Can you believe after Houston we still managed to visit 4 quilt shops in the area and found something to buy at 3 of them lol.

Visited the beautiful botanical gardens where they had a scarecrow exhibition, it was just fantastic.

Headed off to Savannah stopping at the "Whistlestop Cafe" for fried green tomatoes for lunch, it was soooo pretty driving off the main highways.

Arrived at Savannah just on dusk, it looked amazing, big oak trees backlit by lanterns with Spanish moss hanging from them. It was so interesting as it is such an old city, there are no tall buildings, maybe 14 stories would be the highest.
Our hotel room is a lovely corner room with balcony and a view of a beautiful church across the road.

Please visit again soon as went stopped off at Moultie and then on to New Orleans.

I will have to bore you with a few pictures from the AQM in Melbourne a couple of weekends ago in between my trip.

Well I better move as I am in the designing mood and have started a new project this morning. Will give you a peek prview of that as soon as I have something to show you in colour...lol.

Houston

Hi Everyone

We finally made it to Houston.

OMG What a fair !!!!!!! HUGH !!!!!!!

Marg and I arrived Thursday afternoon, dropped off our bags at the the hotel and off to the show. We were there for 4 hrs and only did 2 aisles.

Spent all day Friday and Saturday spending up BIG....OMG....the antique quilt stands, there would be at least 8 of them with a variety of quilts and prices.

Marg ended up with 2 gorgeous 1930's quilts and I ended up buying 3 ,the price on the Suffolk puff quilt, I just couldn't walk away, two were 1930's and one a 1890's.

...Yummy...
