Antique Quilts

Free Pattern Give Away:
My sister "Marg" and I arrived in Hobart on the Friday morning before the Autumn Gathering.
We stopped off at The Quilted Crow patchwork shop, which proved to be an expensive exercise as we both ended up purchasing an Antique Quilt each....ahhhhhhh !!!!!!!!!!!!
We were helping the girls move a few things around the shop when we fell in love with them....they feel sooooo good...so soft....the hand piecing and hand quilting on them is amazing.
I will post a picture of my quilt for you to see when I get if off lay-by...lol
Have any of you ladies got 1 or maybe 2 antique quilts ?
I would love to hear from you.
Leave a comment (and mention my giveaway on your blog to get an extra entry) to be in the draw for a free pattern .
Good Luck...
Cheers Kerry

I can only imagine the look and feel of an antique quilt. If only I had the ones my grandmother had made... such history in each and every one. You have a wonderful blog with some great patterns. Thanks for sharing!

I have an old quilt top that my Grandmother hand pieced. Its Grandmothers Flower Garden. I need to have it quilted but I have not found anyone to do it yet. Love your blog.

You lucky girl! I've seen some of the antique quilts at Quilted Crow, they are just beautiful, maybe one day I'll own one myself.
Now back to my blog so I can mention your giveaway.

I do not have any antique quilts, but I remember my grandmothers crazy quilt on her bed. I loved sitting there and look at the different fabrics and stitches. And play with the buttons upon it. When she died I guess the quilt was thrown away. Don't think my uncle understood the value of it. Neither did I as a child.

Can you belive this...my mothers sister throw away my grandmothers quilt...!!! I´m all upset just thinking of it...and ohh so sad...I wouldn´t have mind if it was torn...she could have asked...
Glad I found your site...you do wonderful things!! Found you through Jo in Tas...sooo please count me in...

Thanks so much Kerry for coming to Hobart and sharing your talent. We had the best of days.
I too have been seduced by the stunning antique quilts at the Quilted Crow and am now in possession of a gorgeous wedding ring quilt. It is so beautifully made and I would love to know it's history, but have to be content imagining someone spending many happy hours in it's creation. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.... :))

I have a quilt pieced by my mother-in-laws grandmother, she gave it to me and I quilted it by hand. I don't know if that is considered an antique but it is special to me.

Thanks to all you ladies who have shared your stories with me....they give me goose bumps....I didn't know blogging was so much fun.....How lucky to be handed down an old quilt with the history... we should all be signing, dating and writing a brief story on the back of each quilt we make....
Cheers Kerry x

I am the only antique thing in my family.....But possessing an old quilt must be wonderful. I hope that my grand-grand-grand-grandchild will take part in a "Giva Away" and then she can show all my quilts!
At the moment I am doing a wedding quilt for my daughter who will get married in September.I can`t show this quilt in my blog, you can see only single hearts of it, because it will be published in a special patchwork magazin in June.
If you are interested in it, I will send you a picture. I think, Australia is far away enough not to get trouble with the publisher.
love your blog

However, I sincerely hope being able to buy one, some day, while travelling. The look and feel must be soooo special !

THANKS for that wonderful give-away. I'm crossing my fingers (and toes) now.. :>)

Smiles from Belgium !

Well I thought it was about time to leave a comment! The only "old" quilt I have is a vintage yo-yo or suffolk puff quilt about 1960's or 1970's vintage but I do love antique quilts as you know and the patterns and the fabrics....I could go on!!I have always loved this quilt and especially the fabrics (lol) and just never got the pattern. Now I had better head off and put it on my blog.

Hello!
Yes, I have a few very treasured antique quilts. They were given to me by my great aunt. They are hand pieced. Two are patch work and the other is a grandmothers flower garden. They are both beautifully hand pieced. Oh, to have the patience to do that!!
Thanks for sharing...love your blog.

I have a couple of antique quilts but I have gone the 'top' route.. I used to buy and sell them on ebay 100 years ago (well it feels that long).. I love 30's fabrics so, stangely enough all my 'antiques' are 30's! I love my tops, and I also love checking out how they were pieced together, and pieces of fabric joined to make A piece of the quilt.. very resourceful.. I try to do this in my quilts now, just in case I run out of 30's fabrics (ROFLMAO)

Bundy aka Bernadette suggested I come and check out your blog, but I have you in bloglines anyways, she got in sooner!

I would love one day to own an antique quilt, well I can dream. I am the 1st quilter in my family and I am in the "process" of making all my 6 children an heirloom quilt, supposedly for wedding presents, but these quilts do take a lot of time, and also a lot of finding bits and bobs to add to them.
I would love to be part of the draw
cheers

It was the quilt that my grandmother started, which she then passed onto my mum who continued patiently piecing the hexagons, which got me into quilting. When mum passed away, I somehow ended up with the quilt and a big bag of hexagons. I just love to sit and stitch it and look at all the fabrics.

Wow I really love the history and the look and feel of antique quilts. I am a first generation quilter so the only ones I have ever saw are from friends but I know when you see one the feeling of connection from the past to the present is overwhelming....

Shelina said...

No I don't have any antique quilts. Nobody in my family quilted that I know of, and even if we did, our family history is such that we had to move without lost most of our possessions.
