Altanta

We had an uneventful flight to Atlanta, and settled into our beautiful historic hotel on the 18th floor in the middle of town for the next 2 days.

Can you believe after Houston we still managed to visit 4 quilt shops in the area and found something to buy at 3 of them lol.

Visited the beautiful botanical gardens where they had a scarecrow exhibition, it was just fantastic.

Headed off to Savannah stopping at the "Whistlestop Cafe" for fried green tomatoes for lunch, it was soooo pretty driving off the main highways.

Arrived at Savannah just on dusk, it looked amazing, big oak trees backlit by lanterns with Spanish moss hanging from them. It was so interesting as it is such an old city, there are no tall buildings, maybe 14 stories would be the highest.
Our hotel room is a lovely corner room with balcony and a view of a beautiful church across the road.

Please visit again soon as went stopped off at Moultie and then on to New Orleans.

I will have to bore you with a few pictures from the AQM in Melbourne a couple of weekends ago in between my trip.

Well I better move as I am in the designing mood and have started a new project this morning. Will give you a peek prview of that as soon as I have something to show you in colour...lol.

  1. Take care chat soon.

Cheers

Houston

Hi Everyone
We finally made it to Houston.
OMG What a fair !!!!!!! HUGH !!!!!!!
Marg and I arrived Thursday afternoon, dropped off our bags at the the hotel and off to the show. We were there for 4 hrs and only did 2 aisles.
Spent all day Friday and Saturday spending up BIG....OMG....the antique quilt stands, there would be at least 8 of them with a variety of quilts and prices.
Marg ended up with 2 gorgeous 1930's quilts and I ended up buying 3 ,the price on the Suffolk puff quilt, I just couldn't walk away, two were 1930's and one a 1890's.
...Yummy...

Hi everyone
Been to Orlando and the Kennedy Space Centre, a road trip down to Miami and Key West.
Miami is HUGH, HOT and HUMID. A very colourful city but way to warm for me.
Down to Key West you go over 42 bridges one being 10mile long, I did count them on the way back...lol. That was well worth the visit, a very cute town.
Flew into Las Vegas staying at Caesars Palace on the 22nd floor over looking the pool area, 7 pools all different shapes and sizes.
Saw "Cher" and "O" shows and took a helicopter ride down into the Grand Canyon. All amazing'
Down to San Diego, did the zoo, park and sea world. The panda at the zoo was so gorgeous I have posted a picture of him just laying back eating bamboo.
Off to Los Angeles tomorrow.
My sister arriving here Wednesday morning,so packing my hubby for home Wednesday night,
Sis and I will be flying to Houston Quilt Market for 3 days....
So until next time take care.

We made it to the USA.

Hi everyone.
I am sitting in a hotel in Orlando as I speak. Ahh !!!!!!
Graham and I arrived in Los Angeles safely on Thursday morning arriving 1 hour earlier then scheduled as we had a good tail wind as a result of the tsunami, so the captain said.
The flight was fine and not near as bad as I thought it would be, I just sat back and enjoyed watching a few movies, reading my book and had a nannying nap.lol.
After arriving at the motel in LA for the night we jumped onto a tour bus of downtown LA, through Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive, The Grove, Hollywood, Chinese Theatre, Walk of Fame, Sunset Strip, Venice Beach (we were a little early to see all the muscles...dam...lol) then to the Farmers Market for a light lunch then back to the motel to bed as the jet lag was catching up with us.
We caught an earlier flight out Friday morning to Orlando.
Had a quick look around the Disney Market last night, what an amazing place for kids, then over to Kennedy Space Station today, it was well worth the visit BUT how amazing would it be to actually be there when they launched one of those space shuttles....now that would be a day to remember, amazing.!!!!
Off to Miami tomorrow by car for a few days, one of those days spent driving down to
Keys West.
Well I better sign off before I bore you all to tears...lol.
Will keep you up to date. I will add a few photos the next time, so until then take care.
Cheers

Warrnambool Workshop

Once again I spent the weekend down at Fragrant Cottage in Warrnambool doing "All My Santa's" Quilt Christmas Workshop with a great bunch of ladies.
On the Saturday we did fabric painting on the top panel of my quilt, Sunday the Applique trees in varies forms of Applique.
My passion is needle turn applique which is very time consuming, so it was very interesting to see the ladies whipping up their blocks on the sewing machine using blanket stitch applique and a "little" raw edge applique.
On the way home from Warrnambool between Camperdown and Colac I just had to stop and take a photo of the "Dry Rocks Walls" which run for miles along the sides of the road edging the paddocks.
I know all you crafty people out there can appreciate the skill, time and labour in these beautiful fences.

New Projects

"Cuppillar"
To your left.
I have finally finished stitching the last in my bed runner series and sent it off to the quilters.

"Birds of Paradise"
Thanks to the ladies who helped in the naming of this quilt, the birds are appliqued on last so its a fun bright, cheery, easy quilt to make.
Hope you like it .

"Ducks on Parade"
In this quilt there are nine appliqued and stitched ducks in 5 different styles
and colours. Once again its a funky, bright, fun quilt to do.
They are both at the quilters and will be launched at the AQM in November in Melbourne.

Hi everyone.
What a cold & windy old day today. I have been busy doing the bookwork today for our other "Real" business !Yuk! I hate bookwork but it does help pay the bills I suppose...lol.
While I am on my break, thought I would pop in here and show you a couple of pictures from a workshop I did on the weekend with a great bunch of ladies in Ballarat called the "Sew & Sew's". I had 15 ladies in a class doing fabric painting on a variety of different projects. They all completed their projects and were very surprised how easy and what fun it is to do.
Heading down to Warrnambool this weekend for a workshop at "Fragrant Cottage" . We will be doing "All My Santa's" quilt.
I will post a few pictures next week from my weekend at Warrnambool.
Until then, take care.

Quilt Aid BOM

Hi everyone.
I am very pleased to have participated in a combined Block of the Month with 11 other Australian Designs for a Charity Project for World Vision Addis Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia.
There are 12 stores involved in this project each supplying just 1 of the 12 blocks.
My block went to the lovely shop"The Stitching Post" in Katoomba.
For further information on how the BOM runs and where you can purchase each block please visit Quiltaid .
Each shop has finished the quilt differently, so make sure you visit the quilt gallery, they are all finished off beautifully.
I hope you enjoy making my block as much as I enjoyed designing it.

New Design Nearly Done

Hi Everyone.
Hope you are all well.
I have been busy doing a little stitching, designing, teaching a few fabric painting classes in Geelong for Glenda at "A Little Different"and doing a short grahic design course in the city which I am enjoying immensely.
This year I decided to take it easy from tutoring as I was soooooo busy last year and felt like I was never home, so far it is going to plan....lol....

Earlier this year I was asked if I would like to be a part of a Charity BOM with 11 other great designers, the concept and final design will be out in a couple of months BUT will keep you all posted....
It is all very exciting.
Now getting back to my heading...lol....
I have "nearly" finished my bed topper, "boy" !!!!! I have had fun deciding on the patchwork design and the fabric to complement the painting...this was my second lot of fabric, I hope you like it....
Please let me know what you think.?
I still have to sew the borders to the centre piece and finish a little applique to the corners, then the quilting.

Next week I will give you a look at part of my NEW DESIGN for the little man in your life.....Trains, Bears, Toys & Soldiers another design in my
Bed Topper range.

Hope you all have a great weekend and looking forward to
hearing from you and what you have been up to.

Big Birthday

...I am the old girl in the middle.....
..... My hand stitched quilt with 1006 pieces.....
.....My cake.....can you guess how many cakes ?.....
....BOO HOO....
I have had a big birthday since I spoke to you all last.. that's my excuse for not writing as I am getting old and slowing down....lol.
I had the best birthday ever though I have to say.
I celebrated it at my favourite French restaurant in Geelong called Le Parisien with my family and a few close friends.
Company, cards and gifts to remember my day forever.
The weather was perfect, my cake divine and a hand stitched quilt from my beautiful little sister, 1006 pieces she has written on the label on the back of the quilt to remind me "how much she loves me" she said....lol.
...It was the best...

My New Design

..... A section of my new bed topper.....
Hi everyone.
Hope this post finds you all well and stitching madly.
It's raining here today, what a beautiful sight it is when you haven't seen rain for as long as we have.......even the garden is smiling.
Here is a small section of my new project, it's a painted and stitched panel for a queen bed topper or runner whichever you like to call it, I haven't completed the patchwork part of it yet as I haven't found the right fabric BUT when I do you will be the first one to view it.
Let me know what you think of the panel so far please.
Have a good one.
Cheers

... Mosaics at Portland...
Welcome to the new year......
It has started in fast forward hasn't it with January already gone.
I have been busy, what about you ? I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas day with your families as I did.
On Boxing day my hubby and I heading down to Portland for a couple of days....have a look at the gorgeous mosaics I found down on the water front....not sure who did the work on it but it is amazing .
The week after the new year we headed off again to spend a few nights in Sydney, Nelson Bay & Newcastle.
The amazing road cut through rock between Sydney and Newcastle was unreal.
Had a helicopter ride over Nelson Bay...well worth the money if you are ever up that way.
Then back to Sydney to share the hotel with the tennis stars.
Saw a few tennis players BUT not sure who they were as I don't follow the tennis...lol...dam...
